This led fans to believe Morty's villainous double would play a larger office in season four, but we're at present eight episodes in, then far, Evil Morty has only appeared briefly in the Story Train episode 'Never Ricking Morty'.

Unfortunately, that cameo didn't amount to much, but this doesn't mean that he hasn't fabricated his presence felt this flavor already. In fact, viewers may already be witnessing the true origin of Evil Morty across season four as a whole — and no, we don't but mean in the opening credits either.

There'south one specially pop fan theory which suggests that Evil Morty's origin might play out in every episode during the title sequence. The thought is that the Morty we see abased to those monsters is an alternating version who somehow survived and swore revenge on Rick for leaving him behind.

The theory makes a lot of sense, even explaining why Evil Morty would need cybernetic implants in the first place, but information technology's not specially satisfying as nosotros never knew this version of Morty until he already turned evil. Instead, information technology would be far more than interesting if the Morty we've been invested in since solar day one turns out to be Evil Morty instead.

Rick has ever been unkind to his grandson — who tin can forget when he forced Morty to bury his own trunk dorsum in season 1? — only this abuse has recently taken some particularly brutal and inventive turns in season four.

This all culminated in episode eight, 'The Vat of Acrid Episode', where fans discover Rick has done something so night that there might exist no coming back from this for Morty — and information technology all starts with one non-so-simple request.

After they test out the titular vat of acrid, Morty criticises Rick'southward latest invention, arguing that it doesn't compare to other devices invented by his grandfather.

In the heat of the moment, Morty and then decides to take reward of Rick's rage by challenging him to create a 'do-over' motorcar that allows people to save his 'progress' in life and then re-do his by decisions.

Fans should have probably guessed something was upwardly when Rick speedily agrees, and seemingly breaks his own "no time travel" rule in the process.

Morty plays around with the device at first, much like whatever of the states would, but things change when he falls in love with an unnamed woman. At first, their romance is surprisingly touching, but the episode takes a dark turn when a flying they take crashes on a remote mountain.

Later they and the other survivors are driven to cannibalism, the couple escape with their lives intact, only for Jerry to and then press the re-do push accidentally and erase Morty's unabridged relationship.

As if that wasn't painful plenty, Rick then reveals he's been tricking Morty this whole time. What his grandson believed to be a time travel device is actually a transdimensional teleporter, which shoves Morty into a new, but very similar alternate reality every time he presses the push button.

That's not all though. Each time Morty played effectually with the device, he was actually replacing and killing an alternate version of himself in the virtually horrific manner possible. That means our Morty is now technically responsible for the expiry of countless other Morty'southward, even though he wasn't actually enlightened of what he was doing.

While this big reveal is going on, Rick combines all of the alternating realities that Morty travelled to into one where the consequences of his do-over deportment could all be felt at once. To escape this nightmare, Morty realises his only option is to hibernate out in the fake acid vat which he mocked at the very start of the episode...

That's right. Rick tricked Morty into killing countless versions of himself, while likewise losing the dear of his life, not once, but twice, along the way — and he did just to bear witness a point.

Rick has always been little and stubborn, merely what he's done to Morty here is squanched upward on a whole other level. All that bloodshed and psychological trauma would mess anyone upward, no matter how stable they were to brainstorm with, and Morty's already been put through a lot since Rick outset walked back into his life.

The shy, bad-mannered Morty we kickoff met in the pilot is all the same effectually, simply his edges have been hardened somewhat. Rick's unrelenting pessimism has definitely made an impact on him more and more in recent seasons.

It wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine how this latest ordeal could break Morty completely, and if so, it's clear he would want revenge on Rick.

This all suggests that our Morty might have been destined to become Evil Morty all along... simply if so, how would this work? After all, fans kickoff met the evil doppelganger in episode ten of season one, "Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind".

Well, we know Rick might not similar to time travel much, merely the technology does exist (in the evidence at least), and it'south entirely possible that our current version of Morty could but turn evil so travel back to previous events.

Even if Morty himself couldn't invent the engineering science needed, there's an entire box of "Time-travel stuff" in Rick's lab which could set up him on the right path.

But if that's true, so why would Evil Morty travel backwards in time at all? What would be the point?

Bold that the events depicted in the acrid vat episode are what finally interruption Morty, and then it stands to reason that he would want to hurt Rick in the pettiest way possible. If so, and then we couldn't imagine annihilation more annoying than Morty besting his grandpa using the very same time travel technology he conspicuously resents so much. Maybe he'd want to effort and find the unnamed love he lost, too?

Assuming all of this to exist true, Evil Morty might not surface direct away. In fact, Morty might not transform completely until season five at the earliest, but still, the seeds have been sown, much like how Rick sowed Mega Tree seeds into Morty's anus all the way back in episode 1.

Rick and Morty season 4 airs Sundays on Adult Swim in the United states of america, and airs in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland on E4 and All 4 on Wednesdays.
